Summary |
Corporal Keeley gives an account of his life, from his time at school to his return from Gallipoli. Leaving school, after a fight with two other boys, he becomes a picker-up in a wool-shed, then a shearer. There are adventures and mishaps along the way. Then, encouraged by a girl and hurried by a companion, he enlists. He and his mate take part in the landing and fighting at Gallipoli, and after go to France. This novel is enriched by Rudd's access to the letters of his son, Gower, about army life during World War I. |
