Notes "First planned to be printed under the direction of the Irish Record Commission from a collection of ms. books formed by Mr. Lodge from the Patent and Close rolls. Mr. Lascelles finally compiled the work unconnected with the Commission. Upon its appearance, it was examined by the Commissioners of records for Great Britain and thereupon ordered to be suppressed by reason of its "incompleteness, imperfections and improper introduction of irrevellant matter." It was eventually allowed to appear in 1852. cf. v.1, p. [i]
