Summary Available figures put the number of child soldiers involved in armed conflicts in Africa at around 100,000. Some are as young as nine. This report examines the role of various African Union (AU) organs in monitoring children's rights in conflict and post-conflict situations, and their linkages to specific child rights advocacy and monitoring mechanisms. It captures policy debates and the recommendations of a seminar that explored means of collaboration between the United Nations (UN) mechanisms for the protection of children and the AU Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child
