Series My24 ; Series 1, Episode 1
Summary Twenty-six young people, aged 11-21, from around Australia tell their stories about the day that changed their lives forever, and how the events of 24 hours can fundamentally change attitudes and aspirations.MY: 24 is a 13-part series featuring twenty-six young people, who using their own words and images, chronicle the impact of a 24 hour life-changing experience. In each episode two individual stories are interwoven, with both participants taking us on a personal journey to relive their 'MY: 24' event and the impact it's had on their lives. The young people selected and the stories they tell reflect the broad mix of contemporary Australian life. Included are the impact of a natural disaster, chronic health problems and physical differences that are seen as disabilities. Alongside these themes there are also stories of ambition, cultural differences, living with depression and the experience of being a refugee. Because they have never known life without the Internet and with social media being a huge part of their lives, these young people are comfortable and able to tell their own stories frankly and intimately. Both Dave and Crystal's MY: 24 stories have a strong physical component, albeit in very different ways. Dave suffered depression until at age 15; he went to a Sydney gym for the first time. After that first workout he was hooked. The gym was his new anti-depressant and Greg, his trainer, became his mentor. Crystal never imagined that a fun activity like circus classes with best friend would eventually become her life's focus at just 12 years of age. Her MY: 24, is about the day she decided that the circus was her passion.PRODUCTION DETAILS:Penny Robins is executive producer, and the series is developed and produced is association with the ABC, produced by Essential Media
