Summary |
In this book, the universal experience of pregnancy and childbirth is explored and Sheila Kitzinger looks closely at feelings and behaviour in pregnancy, the physical and spiritual experience of giving birth, the role of the miswife, the bonds that are traditionally formed between mother and midwife and ideas about birth in many different cultures, and she asks how we can learn from them. Illustrated throughout, the book is a reliable source of information for pregnant women, anyone who is thinking of having a baby, and students of the interaction between all those involved with birth. She does not make authoritarian pronouncements or give advice. Her principle aim is to enable women and their partners to make informed choices about how they want to live through their own unique experiences of birth and parenthood |
