Summary *Adult Themes, Coarse Language, Violence. This program contains content that may concern some viewers* For as long as anyone in Papua New Guinea can remember, life has been lived on a war footing. PNG is one of the most diverse yet chaotic nations on earth. Its population of 7 million is divided between hundreds of often warring tribes, the vast majority of whom live in rural areas virtually untouched by the modern world, where the belief in witchcraft is deeply entrenched and tribal disputes flare into deadly violence.Ross' journey begins in the capital, Port Moresby, one of the world's most lawless towns. Here gangs called 'Raskols' control the streets. Armed robbery, car-jacking and rape are commonplace. However, in a country with 800 languages and hundreds of tribes, Ross soon learns that it's tribal custom and rule which dictates life in PNG. To understand the tribal custom better Ross leaves Port Moresby behind to travel deep into the highlands.Travelling along one of the most dangerous roads in the world, Ross is held-up at gunpoint, only to turn the tables on his would-be captors to convince them to lay down their guns for a frank and candid interview with the leader of the group, an infamous man known simply as 'The General'.In the town of Mount Hagen it's estimated that 99% of women have been assaulted. Domestic abuse and rape are part of daily life here. So too is witchcraft and the belief in witches. Those suspected of sorcery may be burnt alive. One woman bravely tells Ross her story and how she seeks justice in spite of the danger it puts her in.PRODUCTION DETAILS:The series is a Freshwater Films Limited production.
