Once a baby is born, many aspects of neuromuscular and physical maturity must be examined. This program focuses on the New Ballard Gestational Age Assessment, developed by Dr. Jeanne Ballard. It is critical that nurses and healthcare professionals working with newborns are aware of how to properly perform each assessment, as well as the 13 newborn reflexes, which are also covered in this program. After viewing the program, the learner will be able to: • Properly perform the New Ballard Gestational Age Assessment • Assess for neuromuscular and physical maturity • Accurately report and score the results of the exam • Identify and test for the 13 newborn reflexes
