Summary |
"Bright colours and accessible designs became Done's signature look. He rode a wave of 1980s optimism and was particularly popular with Japanese tourists. International licensing deals ensued. He also designed the official 2000 Sydney Olympics logo. But what had started as a simple idea to support his painting had taken on a life of its own. "Any time that everything was a reasonably bright colour, people would think it had something to do with me and it didn't. So we literally cut the business in half, which was a considerable amount of money and stopped the licensing arrangements." Done believes that Australians don't understand that an artist can have a parallel commercial design career and agrees that many Australians have been 'sniffy' towards his work as a result.."--website |
