As it happened (Television program)
|
Summary |
In the summer of 1588, England stood alone against the greatest superpower the world had ever seen. The vast Spanish invasion fleet, the mightiest ever assembled, was swooping towards the Channel and the only thing that stood between the invaders and the conquest of England were the ships of the Royal Navy. Peter and Dan Snow trace, day by day, the massive struggle that took place. For one week, the whole future of the British Isles depended on the bravery and skill of the English sailors, none of whom had ever fought a battle on this scale before. They had to use new techniques and new technologies to outwit the Spanish. |
