Summary RON HERRON was born in 1930 and brought up in London's Bermondsey. Originally destined to carpentry and joinery his early talent was singled out and he became a draftsman, eventually joining the London County Council as a trainee architect. By his late twenties he had designed several schools and the Hayward Gallery/Queen Elizabeth Concert Hall complex on the South Bank. In 1960 he became deputy architect on a major scheme for Euston where, with a group of friends, he helped publish the more or less yearly home-produced magazine Archigram. Dedicated to overthrowing the complacency of post-war Establishment Modernism by publishing the work of young designers, including themselves, it was read around the world and the Archigram Group became the most influential force in leading edge architectural design. During his time with Archigram, and subsequently, he has probed the outer edges of the conventional notions of architecture and its relationship with technology and the way we live and work. When the group broke up in the early seventies, Herron, who had taught and worked in the US for several years, worked with a number of architectural and design practices, including Pentagram and Imagination, and is now apartner in Herron Associates. He has taught for most of his time at the Architectural Association and is currently Professor of Architecture at the University of East London. -- from book flap
