This case study focuses on experience of conducting fieldwork in which 43 HIV-positive women living in Andhra Pradesh, India, were interviewed. It provides an account of how qualitative methods were chosen for this project, and the design of the interview schedule. The methodological and logistical challenges of sampling respondents belonging to marginalised sections of the population and collecting data with the assistance of a translator are discussed
