Electronic reproduction of trade cards and illustrated European newspapers from the Harvard College Library, featured in the Image Gallery within Empire Online. This series of more than 700 trade cards and newspapers depicts scenes of European contact with Asia and Africa during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The collection visually documents cultural contacts and activities during the age of European colonial expansion, and can be drawn upon to understand differing attitudes among the British, French, Italian, German and Dutch towards colonial territories
