Summary |
This dataset is designed for teaching how visual data can be used as part of a wider sociological examination of invisible nationalism. The photographic data discussed are provided by Professor Roger Penn from the Department of Sociology at Queen's University in Belfast, and are drawn from a study reported in "Football, the Military and Invisible Nationalism in Contemporary Britain," published in the journal Armed Forces and Society in 2016. The example focuses on how the photographs illustrating the argument in the article were produced and incorporated within a wider hermeneutic process of analysis. It also reveals how visual data serve to render the invisible "visible." The dataset file is accompanied by a Teaching Guide and a Student Guide |
