Summary |
There are strong mutual economic interests between China and Europe, and specifically the Nordic region. The Nordic region enthusiastically welcomes free and open trade as well as foreign direct investment (FDI) and views it as a matter of national pride. This economic openness is attractive to Chinese investors. Although there is growing awareness across the Nordic region of the risks of Chinese investment, this awareness is reluctant and episodic. This paper sets out to better understand why and how three Nordic countries--Sweden, Finland, and Denmark--approach Chinese investment in small, indigenous technology start-ups and identifies concerns about Chinese investments providing access to technology, infrastructure, and markets |
