Summary My latest work explores whether news media help to explain why many Americans are reticent to support government policies that challenge income inequality. This research uses a systematic content analysis to evaluate how online news stories frame economic inequality in the United States and the role of government intervention. After finding that stories differ depending on partisan slant of the news source, I conducted a survey experiment to test whether common partisan frames affect how Americans view inequality and how it should be addressed. This case study explores the methodological successes and challenges associated with this mixed-methods approach and provides advice for future research. My discussion highlights the importance of developing a thoughtful coding scheme, being strategic in selecting cases, and exploring low-cost options for gathering national survey data
