Summary Australia, like every country in the world save two, has signed and ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child. What are the major deprivations and hardships experienced by the worlds̕ children, particularly those in developing countries, and what is being done to protect their rights? Australia has also come under international scrutiny for the treatment of child asylum seekers, the use of mandatory sentencing, and the problems faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. This book examines the Convention and how it is applied to improving the state of the worlds̕ children, and also looks at childrens̕ rights in Australia, particularly in relation to parents ̕rights, rights at school, general legal rights, and the physical punishment of children
