Summary Optimizing outcomes for women in labour at the globallevel requires evidence-based guidance of health workersto improve care through appropriate patient selection anduse of effective interventions. In this regard the WorldHealth Organization (WHO) published recommendationsfor induction of labour in 2011. The goal of the present guideline is to consolidate the guidance for effectiveinterventions that are needed to reduce the global burdenof prolonged labour and its consequences. The primarytarget audience includes health professionals responsiblefor developing national and local health protocol
