Summary |
Mike Poehlein, track coach at Purdue University discusses running mechanics, training methods and drills along with race tactics and strategies for distance events. He explains how the endurance, speed and mental toughness required for successful distance running can be developed. After describing correct running form, various drills to achieve an efficient running form are demonstrated. Mike then discusses the training seasons and describes various training methods: fartlek, steady-pace training, anaerobic-threshold training, repetition training, interval training and pace-surge training. Tactics and strategies, along with the conditioning and training methods most suitable for the individual events are presented for the 800m, 1500m, 3km, 5km and 10km races |
