Summary |
Inspired by an incredible true story The fighter is a gritty, affectionately humorous, yet stirring comeback tale of an unlikely boxing hero, "Irish" Micky Ward and his half-brother Dicky Eklundinner, who must come apart as opponents before coming together as brothers. Dicky was the pride of Lowell, Massachusetts for going toe-to-toe with champ Sugar Ray Leonard, but has come on hard times and is a crack addict. Micky is now the family's fighter, with his fledgling career going nowhere under the management of his mother Alice. When Micky's latest mismatched fight nearly kills him, he is persuaded by iron-willed new girlfriend, Charlene, to do the unthinkable: split with the family, pursue his own interests and train without his troubled brother. Then Micky gets the shot of a lifetime at a title fight, and it soon becomes clear that it will take not only Charlene and his new trainer but also his brother and the whole family to get him there |
