Summary In October 1986 Victorian nurses began a strike which lasted for 50 days. This program presents the nurses' version of the dispute, using old nursing films to explore the Florence Nightingale stereotypes which had to be overcome, television reports to tell the story of the strike, and interviews to place the strike in the context of the current crisis in the health care system. Despite condemnations from the media, the state government, the church and the ACTU, the nurses won their dispute for an appropriate career structure including significant pay increases
