A recent Australian survey of elderly residents of nursing homes and hostels found that 93 per cent of residents had some communication difficulty. Since this represents a major barrier in the care of the elderly, this booklet attempts to provide residential care staff with information about communication, communication problems in nursing homes and hostels, and some strategies to overcome them
