Summary In the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, Joe Leahy, a mixed race highlander and wealthy coffee plantantion owner, joins forces with the Ganiga tribe to expand his operation. His ally is the tribal leader, Popina Mai, a superior warrior and orator, who wants to take his people into the modern world quickly. A power struggle erupts and coffee picking is quickly abandoned for inter-tribal warfare on the eve of the crop harvest
