A documentary based on films shot over fifty years ago by Michael and Daniel Leahy, the first Europeans to encounter the inhabitants of the central New Guinea highlands, whose existence had not been previously known. This film documents the first contact of the two cultures and also records the impressions, some fifty years later, of both the surviving Australian gold prospectors and the highlanders
