Summary |
"About every 10 years, the National Research Council undertakes a survey of physics. The most recent decadal survey, Physics in a New Era, was completed in 2001. The current survey, Physics 2010, is now in progress and is expected to be finished by 2010." "Physics 2010 comprises a series of books exploring the various disciplines of the field; a final volume will address physics as a whole. Each volume incorporates an assessment and outlook prepared by an independent study committee. The purpose of the survey is (1) to provide a snapshot of the field that helps track and enhance understanding of the evolution of the science, and (2) to identify and promote compelling emerging scientific opportunities." |
|
"The first book of the Physics 2010 series is Revealing the Hidden Nature of Space and Time: Charting the Course for Elementary Particle Physics (The National Academies Press, 2006). The current volume, Plasma Science, is the third book. Additional volumes will cover the following topics."--Jacket |
