Summary "On 20 October 2000 the Australian Academy of Science held a symposium in Canberra called Schizophrenia and other psychoses: translating research into policy and action. This was not just another schizophrenia research conference, because its emphasis was not on the research itself but on the applicability of the research, as well as on the vital nexus between research findings and policy development. -- Commonwealth and state governments are the primary providers of funds for schizophrenia research in our country, yet this was the first national conference to focus on giving feedback to and seeking input from mental health policy makers in relation to such research. This integrated not only the perspectives of the researcher and the bureaucrat but also the perspectives of consumers, carers and non-government funding providers."
