Managing inclusion - primary ; 1
Summary The programme focuses on a team of learning support assistants, based in the yellow room at the top of Gainsborough Primary School in Hackney. Carol works with Year 5 & 6 pupils who have been referred to the team by their class teacher. She also runs a social skills group linked to the lunchtime film and drama club. These sessions help pupils who are struggling to connect socially with others. Alan works with Year 3 and above. He has a respected role in school as confidant and discreetly feeds back pupils problems to their teachers. Alan is also responsible for lunchtime sport activities and circle time sessions, both seen as key role-modelling opportunities for boys. Henry is the EMAG (Ethnic Minority Achievement Grant) co-ordinator for the whole school, charged with raising achievement in black and ethnic-minority pupils. Many of the pupils he works with come from transient families. Their issues are to do with language, culture and behaviour
