Summary |
The 1981 South African (Springbok) rugby tour of New Zealand divided the country in an unprecedented way cutting across class and race lines. This documentary makes no pretence to overview, being made under great difficulty from the heart of the stop-the-tour movement. It is poised at the point where the immediacy of direct cinema can be harnessed for agitprop by the juxtaposition and selection of images and sound. Patu means to strike, kill, punish; it is also a hand-club and the name of one of the three squads organised with the aim of stopping the final test match in Auckland; it was the squad with the largest Polynesian component |
