Dealing with disability -- Alison Andrew interview -- Salt of the Earth |
Summary |
Dealing with disability - First to the difficulties of coping with severely disabled children. For many families the stress is almost unbearable. And if breaking point is reached in families, it's often the father who walks away. In this report two couples talk with unusual frankness about the effect having a disabled child has had on their marriages. Some people may find some of the views expressed in this report distressing. Anthony Wright with the story. Alison Andrew interview - To another very public stoush in Australia's peak indigenous body ATSIC. Its only female member, Alison Anderson, threatened to resign from its women's committee today, claiming the board had failed to support her after she'd been intimidated by prominent regional council chairman Terry O'Shane. In an email Mr O'Shane threatened Ms Anderson with the sackable offence of 'misbehaviour' if he wasn't allowed to control a visit she had planned to Cairns. The meeting was with local women affected by domestic violence. Late today Alison Anderson accepted an apology from Terry O'Shane. Jenny Brockie spoke with her a short time ago. Salt of the Earth - And now to the story of a self-styled conservationist accused of environmental vandalism. It's a conflict that pits the rights of private ownership of land against public responsibility for its protection. Thom Cookes reports |
