Summary Life at boarding school was a new experience for thirteen-year-old Chris Cunningham, and she found many delights in her temporary country home that had not come her way in London. Chris's happy disposition makes her instantly popular, to the great annoyance of one particular girl whose friendship she cannot win, try as she will. Hazel goes out of her way to rile Chris and put her in the wrong on every possible occasion, and when at last she succeeds in upsetting the placid Chris, there are more serious complications than even Hazel anticipated. The many excitements and adventures of Chris's first term are heightened because suspicious conclusions are reached by many of the girls as a result of mysterious incidents surrounding Honor Browne, another newcomer. The test of Chris's good nature comes when she and her friend Jo discover the girl's important secret, which has to be carefully guarded until the time comes for it to be divulged. -- Dust jacket
