Summary 'Ubuntu' is a film that documents the plight of street children in urban Africa. Raw and authentic in its message, all stakeholders, including the children themselves, share their stories. Matt Nelson, the film's talented young director, spent several months in southern Africa living with street children in late 2007. Working with a small non-government organisation based in Zambia called Eagles Wings, Matt documented their lives in order to share their stories and raise awareness of their plight. To get an overall picture of the situation they traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe, interviewing various Government ministers and heads of major NGOs, including UNICEF and World Vision. The film was released by Light on a Hill Media in 2008 with screenings in Brisbane and Sydney (Australia) and has also been screened in Lusaka (Zambia), Brussels (Belgium) and Hollywood (USA). It continues to screen around the African continent. In 2009 Ubuntu director, Matt Nelson, received the Accolade Humanitarian Award for dedicated service to social justice and humanitarian causes. Matt was greatly humbled by this award and has used it as a platform to speak about social responsibility and leadership among the "next" generation of leaders.
