The author's case is based on her doctoral dissertation in which she described and analysed the practice and meaning of Middle Eastern dance through the study of performers in Stockholm. This case study provides an account of how she used the method of participant observation in her ethnographic fieldwork, particularly the significance of her own participation in dance classes and performances
