Summary This work introduces readers to a difference of means t-test. Difference of means testing allows researchers to compare the mean of a single variable based on two categories of another variable. There are many variants of difference of means testing - this example focuses on the independent samples t-test. This example uses a subset of data from the 2007 School Readiness Survey. It compares the difference in average number of hours children spend watching TV each week for those whose parents are married compared to those whose parents are not married. Results from an analysis like this could help researchers understand how family dynamics influence child development
