Series Words And Pictures ; Series 1, Episode 6
Summary Today's story is an animated puppet version of the traditional story. Our sympathies are with the bears. Goldilocks is not an attractive character. Some children have made a 'big book of bears' and a balancing bear introduces this week's initial consonant. A play-house in the garden is the location for the singing game Who's that tapping at the window? This series aims to encourage children in the early stages of reading, mainly through the enjoyment of shared stories, rhymes and reading practice; to help them to develop the skill of anticipation in reading for meaning; to demonstrate the differences in letter forms and 'sounds', concentrating on the consonants and blends in the initial position and using this letter knowledge as an aid to reading.Through the use of action, animation and imagery, the programs should sustain the children's desire to read while providing practice in using letter knowledge, language structure and contextual clues to develop mastery of the reading process.**Please note that this program/series has been created from masters kindly provided by DECS Tape Services in South Australia. These recordings have been collected over a period dating back to the early 1990s and as such, the picture quality may be of variable standard
