Summary
The government has concentrated its effort in indeigenous policy in the areas of greatest need - health, housing and infrasturcture, education and training, and employment. By specifically targeting these areas of severe socio-economic disadvantage, particularly in remote communities, the government will produce improved outcomes for the most needy indigenous Australians. These programmes were also protected from budget savings measures in 1996-97
