This program explains the nature and purpose of the Patient Self- Determination Act. Everyone has the right to consent to or refuse medical treatment. By making advance directive decisions prior to incapacitation, patients can have their wishes regarding medical treatment carried out in the event that they have lost their ability to communicate.
