| Summary |
As the 5th Years hurtle towards graduation, they are being confronted by the most challenging cases. Chris is in the referral medicine department where other vets send the cases that have left them baffled. And Lana the poodle is certainly proving a mystery. Overnight she went from a sprightly, happy dog to lethargic and vacant, but the only physical symptom she exhibits is lameness in one paw. Her owners are desperate for answers and so the pressure is on for Chris and surgeon Jayne to get them. In a bid to get to the bottom of the case Lana is examined and tested by virtually every department in the hospital. X-rays reveal nasty masses on Lana's bones. It could be a simple infection or an aggressive cancer. An anxious Chris and Jayne perform a biopsy of the infected area, which reveals the worst possible news: Lana has inoperable cancer. For the first time the normally stoic Chris shows his vulnerable side. He has formed a unique bond with Lana and is deeply affected by the news. In a tender and emotional scene Lana is reunited with her devoted owners. They are relieved to know what's wrong with their pet, but struck down by the sadness that their time with Lana is coming to an end. Jade's career hangs by a thread. Since her surprise exam failure she has one chance to redeem herself. We follow her as she studies night and day for her make or break second chance exam right up until the heart-stopping moment she receives her result.
