"The Newer Volcanics are basaltic materials which over the past 4.5 Ma (since early Pliocene) have spread from central Victoria through western Victoria to southeastern South Australia. ... This study indicates that the volcanic activity associated with the Newer Volcanics could be dormant, contrasting with previous workers who suggested that the volcanicity is extinct. It is possible that activity could recommence at some time over the next thousand years."--Abstract.
