This project set out to examine the environmental factors that influence the trade-off between yield loss and water management in order to develop design guidelines for medium to low rainfall agroforestry. Twenty one sites in the Western Australian wheatbelt and the Murray-Darling Basin were surveyed to determine the relative importance of region, tree species, crop type, aspect, soil type, landscape position, water sources, tree height, tree age and rainfall on the trade-off between improved water management and crop productivity in agroforestry
