Summary Lushington was one of only four Australians captured by the Turks at Gallipolli on April 25, 1915. His memoir relates the story of his four years of captivity, which were spent in the San Stefano Prisoner of War camp outside Constantinople and in harsh conditions in the mountains of southern Turkey, where Turkish prisoners were used as forced labour
Notes Library copy has cloth-backed paper boards with rubbed, worn corners. Front cover has faint initials MBL (Mary Beatrix Lushington). Original label on spine has slight piece missing. Scattered foxing throughout. In slip case 21 x 14 x 5 cm. WLB

Acquired from Douglas Stewart Fine Books, previously part of the Patrick Walters collection and originally owned by Mary Beatrix Lushington. Lushington gave the illustrated copy to his mother shortly after the book's publication. WLB
Contains 35 ink sketches hand-drawn by the author after publication. The front endpapers contain a pen drawing captioned "On the lower shores of the Taurus Mountains. Aug 1916, By Reg." with other drawings in blank pages and the margins throughout. Many of his sketches are of fellow prisoners and their Turkish captors. Copy bears the ownership inscription of the author's mother "Beatrix Lushington". WLB
