Summary |
1943-1945 : Most Australians are tired of wartime privations. Stronger ties with America which came to Australia's aid when Churchill and Britain failed. Invasion threat fades with successive Japanese defeats. John Curtin dies and is nationally mourned, mirroring the grief of many families. Jubilation at war's end, but there are a multitude of costs to count in bereaved families, disrupted lives and shattered bodies and minds |
