Ron Wyatt was a nurse anaesthetist from Nashville Tennessee who, at age forty seven, turned amateur archaeologist to prove the bible stories are historically true. First in 1977 he and his teenage sons Ronny and Danny went to Mount Ararat in Turkey and found Noah's Ark. Next they dived for Ancient Egyptian chariot remains proving Moses' parting of the Red Sea was fact. One day in Jerusalem something extraordinary befell Ron Wyatt. He found himself involuntarily pointing and saying "There's Jeremiah's Grotto and the Ark of the Covenant is in there!" He took this to be a sign from God and he and his sons excavated the site for four years looking for the golden container for the Ten Commandments. Lost for over two thousand years, legend says the power of God flowed from it and the bible tells how the Israelites carried it into battle.In 1982 Ron Wyatt claimed he had finally found the Ark of the Covenant but he had no witnesses and could produce no evidence. Many people believe him but professional archaeologists are sceptical. New archaeological evidence in Israel suggests that there may not just have been one grand golden ark, but many simple everyday portable shrines called in Hebrew 'Ark of God'. This may completely changes how we think of the ark.We may never know the truth about the Ark of the Covenant but, while it remains lost, successive generations will be compelled to mount expeditions to seek it out.
