Summary The terms of reference were to: (i) undertake an epidemiological review of avalaible data and information on unintentional injury in young males so that the nature, extent, causes and contributory factors to injury in young males aged 15 to 29 years is better understood; and (ii) identify, review and assess established Australian and international population-based injury prevention interventions to reduce injury in young males aged 15 to 29, having regard to their effectiveness, cost, aggregate and distributive impacts and their feasibility of implementation, for the purposes of: identifying and appraising existing countermeasures used to reduce injury in this age group in terms of cost-effectiveness; identifying promising and proven strategies used in other areas to reduce harmful health practices in young males that may be applicable to injury prevention and control; identifying structural barriers to interventions to reduce injuries to young males; identifying gaps in knowledge and research needs; and advising on the administrative and legislative options to implement recommendations
