Summary |
A rare, hereditary blood disorder marked by a tendency toward excessive bleeding. Hemophilia is an inherited condition in which the blood clots slowly or not at all. It predominantly occurs in males and is transmitted as a sex-linked mendelian recessive trait (see illustration). The defective gene responsible for hemophilia is located on the X chromosome (one of the two sex chromosomes). Historically, Queen Victoria was a carrier, and several of her male descendants were affected |
