Summary |
Education of international students is central to the aims, orientationand fi nancial viability of many universities. However, the way that culture impacts on the experiences of internationalstudents remains largely unexplored. This may be dueto two factors: fi rst, much of the previous research treats theentire international cohort as a homogeneous group withoutinvestigating the diversity of cultural backgrounds and;second, the research methods used to investigate student'experiences' in universities are dominated by quantitativesurveys that leave little room for exploring personal perspectivesand new issues. This book highlights the cultural issues thatemerge in the experiences of international students. The authorsexplore the Australian international tertiary education sectorand focus on one cultural group. Through a culturally-sensitivetheoretical framework, the experiences of students from theIndian subcontinent are given voice. The resulting personalaccounts provide a platform upon which more appropriatepolicy, marketing, pedagogy and future research can developto provide tertiary systems that are more responsive to theneeds of students--Publisher |
