Pedestrians. Research findings within each of the major human factor areas of road safety research are reviewed. Attention is confined to research relevant to the prevention of road crashes rather than to the amelioration of their effects. The main concern is the road user : road and vehicle factors are considered only to the extent that they interact with the road user characteristics in relation to crash prevention or causation. The purpose of the review was to establish those areas in which there is the greatest need for further research; acccordingly, the review concludes with a list of recommended research topics
