Summary Annotation Floods are of increasing public concern world-wide due to increasing damages and unacceptably high numbers of injuries. Previous approaches of flood protection led to limited success especially during recent extreme events. Therefore, an integrated flood risk management is required which takes into consideration both the hydrometeorogical and the societal processes. Features Develops a comprehensive picture of flood risk management Covers all relevant scientific aspects of this issue including science, engineering, social and planning science Refers to recent developments of models, methods and theories, their combination and interfaces as well as further research demands Contributes to an integrated water management Shows similarities and sitespecific particularities of flood risk management including transboundary issues Field of interest Waste Water Technology / Water Pollution Control / Water Management / Aquatic Pollution Target groups Scientists, professionals and students in flood(risk) research, model developers in the water and environmental sector, experts of water authorities, spatial planning authorities, municipalities, consultancies, regional and landscape planners
