In the growing field of bioethics, the majority of ethical issues confronted by health care professionals arise near the end of life. Making decisions with and for a patient at or near the end of life is never easy. Emotions, family dynamics, cultural practices, finances, medical decisions and legal issues often intersect, and create difficult conflicts at a time when patients and family are most vulnerable.
