One desirable option for the remediation of salinity in dryland agricultural areas is the development of commercial tree crops to utilise excess water not used by annual crops and pastures. Tree crops able to resprout after repeated harvests carried out at short intervals may be economically and practically desirable. Oil mallee is potentially one such crop for the low-rainfall areas of the Western Australia wheatbelt
