Summary An outstanding collection of state-of-the-art experimental methods for herpes virology. These procedures range from the more biological in vivo maneuvers to the purely molecular, and are described in detail by selected experts to ensure reproducibility. Most of the protocols rely on the herpes simplex virus as prototype, so that it then becomes relatively easy to extrapolate and make the necessary modifications required for application to other herpesviruses, especially members of the alpha group, such as PRV and EHV
