Summary Between 2014 and 2017, unprecedented droughts hit Lake Baikal, the largest freshwater lake in the world and a well-known UNESCO World Heritage site in Russian Siberia. Low water levels became a source of concern. The water resources of the lake are used by companies such as the En+ Group (En+), which uses them for the operations of its hydropower plants, such that low water levels may threaten the ability of the company to seamlessly continue its operations. Low water levels are also an issue for the Russian government as it expressed concern about threats to water, heat, and power supply for the region, while UNESCO and civil society worry about threats to the unique biodiversity of the lake. Hence, the generation and implementation of a sound climate adaptation strategy is called for. The case describes actions taken by En+ and its multiple stakeholders in light of the droughts, and invites students to assess those actions through the lenses of environmental responsibility and stakeholder relations
